Highlights
Announced as a BAFTA nominee is the latest feature Moffie by alumnus Oliver Hermanus. The film is up for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
Graduation film Summer Shade (wri/dir Shira Haimovici, DoP. Tamas Apor Meder, co-prod. Adam Robinson) will have its US premiere at the Aspen ShortsFest 2021.
MAS alumna Tamara Vogl will take part in this year’s Canneseries, the international series scriptwriting residency program.
Three alumni are on the shortlist for the first edition of the Mother Tongues Award, a development initiative for films by UK-based filmmakers in any language other than English. Congratulations to Fateme Ahmadi, Benjamin Bee, and Adina Istrate for their respective projects.
Sofia Meetings has announced the projects selected for its 18th edition including new work from LFS alumni:

Out now via Sky Cinema is Creation Stories, a biopic of music industry legend Alan McGee that features a host of student and alumni names in the credits! Congratulations to the team led by Matthew Button — Samuel Tibi, Davide Maria Valsecchi, Andrea Vigoni, Scott Trotter, Ana Garcia Rico, Sam McGrath, Julien Cornwall, Frederico Nobre de Carvalho, Alex Curcuta, Oscar Albert.
Graduation film successes
Graduation film Empty Spaces (wri/dir. Clara Stephanie Schieber Lorenesi, DoP. Juri Ferri, ed. Anne Madeleine Mancosu) featured as part of the Kyoto International Student Film and Video Festival 2021.
Graduation film Macchiato (wri/dir. Prospero Pensa, DoP. Fyras Slaiman, prod. design Davide Maria Valsecchi) screened at the Watersprite Student Film Festival, and MAS graduate Taiyo Yoshida and current MAS student Lyndon Henley Hanrahan were both named as winners of the 2021 Watersprite Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.
Graduation film My Other Suit is Human (dir. Andrew Montague, DoP. Zeta Spyraki, prod. design Rocio Rivera Rosado, prod. manager Adam Robinson, sound Franco Volpi) has been selected for the Oxford Film Festival, Flickers Rhode Island Irish Film Feis and Fastnet Film Festival 2021, and the film took home the Rusty Casselton Award at the Fargo Film Festival 2021.
The Roosevelt Institute for American Studies, located in Middelburg, Zeeland, organised an online screening of graduation film Meidagen (wri/dir. Juri Ferri, DoP. Stephanie Schieber Lorenesi, ed. Marijn Maas) followed by a lecture by historian Peter Sijnke.
Grad films Underneath (wri/dir. Calif Chong, DoP. Hsien Niu, prod. design Andrea Vigoni) and Sink or Swim (dir. Alisa Tritenko, prod. Ksenia Rubina, DoP Norbert Strehle) are screening online this month as part of the Cinemagic Film Festival.
Alumni achievements
Another feature worked on by a team of LFS graduates is Demon, which had its World Premiere at Cinequest Film Festival this week. Congratulations to debut feature director George Bartlett and co-writer Theo MacDonald (MAS alumni) and the team: Shalini Adnani, Christina Morelli, Hsien Yu Niu, Emily Marquet, Xiao Tang, Anne Madeleine Mancosu, Marlene Emilia Rios, Richard Elliot, Oscar Wilmott.
Remi Itani was awarded the Best Pitch Award of the 2021 Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for her short fiction film Nobody Wants the Night. She also took part in the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra scheme with her debut feature project In a Dream You Saw a Way to Survive and You Were Full of Joy.
Julien Cornwall was a jury member for this years student fiction and animation short film category at the In The Palace International Short Film Festival, where last year his graduation film The Lost Scot (prod. Eliot Gelberg-Wilson, DoP. Paul Maziere, ed. Luke Howe, prod. design Julia Bronwyn Weise) won the Best Student Fiction Film Award.

Watch a new interview via LRM Online with Darragh Carey and Bertrand Desrochers, directors of new film A Brixton Tale (co-written by another alumnus, Rupert Baynham), which recently premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival and Glasgow Film Festival.
