Graduation film successes

Filipiñana continues its incredible award-winning festival run, this month winning both the Best Film, International Competition, and the George Lucas Grand Prix for Best of Show at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2021. Filipiñana is now eligible for the Live Action Short Film Academy Award entry 2022!

In addition this the film was awarded the Best Short Film at Prague Shorts Film Festival and Best Student Film at Kyiv Molodist Film Festival Congratulations to the team: Dir/Editor Rafael Manuel, Producer Naomi Pacifique, DoP Xenia Guenther, and Production Design Andrea Vigoni.

We are thrilled to announce LFS grad film Firecracker Story World Premiere at Shanghai Film Festival 2021. Congrats to the team who made this film in challenging conditions: Dir Zhizi Hao, Producer Naixin Liang, DoP Guyuan Ma, (all MAF 194) Prod Design Yiling Ding (MAF 195), Editor Xiao Ding (MAF0918), Sound Dezhou Li, (MAF188) AD Xinyi Hong (MAF 194).

Other incredible news is that My Other Suit is Human (Dir Andrew Montague (MAF 192). Production Designer Rocio Rosado MAF 195) has been nominated for The Irish Film and Television Academy Award.

My Other Suit is Human will also screen at Oscar/BAFTA Qualifier LA Shorts FF in July along with grad film Transit (Dir Ariq Khan, DoP Eng Teck Ng, both MAF 192).

LFS is proud to be taking part of the 50th Anniversary of student film festival Sehsuchte. Congrats to the grad film Summer Shade team Dir: Shira Hiamovici, DoP Tamas Meder (both MAF 192 and Co-Producer Adam Robinson (MAF189).

Alumni achievements

We’re thrilled to see our alumni in the selection for the Cannes Film Festival and Semaine de la Critique. In the Official Selection (Special Screening) is O Marinheiro das Montanhas, edited by Ricardo Saraiva, and in the Semaine de la Critique, Simón Mesa Soto will present his debut feature Amparo, also edited by Ricardo Saraiva.

Fredrik Limi was part of the BAFTA-winning team behind The School That Tried to End Racism, taking home the Reality & Constructed Factual award at the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards 2021.

Ian Bonhôte’s co-directorial feature Rising Phoenix won two Sports Emmys, Outstanding Long Sports Documentary and Outstanding Music Direction.

Sasha Collington’s debut feature Love Type D has been featured in BBC America’s Summer Movie Preview. The film will have a US VOD release on 9th July.

Sonia Liza Kenterman presented her debut feature Tailor at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

A new Guardian article explores the extraordinary talent of alumnus Bill Douglas.

Shanshan Liu’s film Forever was part of the SIFF EXPLORE programme at the Shanghai International Film Festival.(Director/Screenwriter/Editor- Shanshan Liu, Co-writer- Ruru Liu, Script Supervisor — Tongxin Zhu, DoP- Haoran Zeng, Sound Recorder — Longhua Yang, Colorist — Boyuan Li, Cast — Jiaxin Zhang, Alexandre Oldcorn, Kyle Campbell-Pope).
