Our application deadlines have shifted slightly, in response to both the UK government’s responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and a high demand to study with us. Please note the dates below, contact admissions@lfs.org.uk should you have any questions, and watch our Blended Learning video.
June 2021 start: Applications are open for UK and EU applicants until the current noted deadline of 19 March 2021. We are unable to accept further International applicants due to previous demand.
September 2021 start: Applications are open for UK and pre-settled / settled EU applicants will remain open until the current noted deadline of 17 May 2021. We are unable to accept further International applicants due to previous demand.
January 2022 start: Applications are open for International applicants. Applications for UK and pre-settled / settled EU applicants will open on 12 July 2021. The current noted deadline for both is 4 October 2021.

LFS Masterclasses invite industry professionals to speak exclusively with students, alumni, and staff. In February, we welcomed producer Sarah Brocklehurst (Animals), producer Gabrielle Tana (Philomena), and director Eva Riley (Perfect 10).
As part of our partnership with One Room With A View, a London-based film critic team focused on publishing sharp, 300-word reviews, Jack Cameron wrote a longer piece for us about Embrace of the Serpent and how it subverts the traditional hero’s journey. You can read it on our blog or Medium account.
Highlights
Graduate Jacqueline Lentzou’s debut feature film Moon, 66 Questions will premiere at the 71st Berlinale in the Encounters competition.
Also screening at the Berlinale, in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section, is the film Wood and Water, which features the work of alumnus Alex Grigoras as cinematographer and alumna Hsien Niu as gaffer.
We’re excited to see so many LFS names in the competition line-up for the 18th In The Palace International Short Film Festival. Featuring in the Student Competition are:
- My Other Suit Is Human (dir. Andrew Montague, DoP. Zeta Spyraki, prod. design Rocio Rivera Rosado, prod. manager Adam Robinson, sound Franco Volpi)
- The Cow of Fire (dir. Vasco de Oliveira, prod. Rocio Rivera Rosado, DoP. Anthony Hughes)
- Caravan (dir. William Anderson, DoP. Eng Teck Ng, ed. Nailah Robinson)
And featuring in the International Competition is the latest film by graduate Zhannat Alshanova, History of Civilization, and a non-LFS film made by current student Maria Pawlikowska, A Little Death (2nd AC Pablo Garrido Carreras).
French and German speakers can watch a new interview with Filipiñana writer-director Rafael Manuel courtesy of Arte, who caught up with him during his time at the Cannes Cinéfondation Residence. Filipiñana is now screening on Arte in France and Germany!
Graduation film successes
Summer Shade (wri/dir Shira Haimovici, DoP. Tamas Apor Meder, co-prod. Adam Robinson) has been selected for the ÉCU European Independent Film Festival.
The Cow of Fire (wri/dir Vasco de Oliveira, prod. Rocio Rivera Rosado, DoP. Anthony Hughes) has been selected for the Rozefilmdagen, Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival.
Macchiato (dir. Prospero Pensa, DoP. Fyras Slaiman, prod. design Davide Maria Valsecchi) has been selected for the Watersprite Student Film Festival.
Alumni achievements
“Making a film is an act of resistance” — Alvaro Gago was interviewed about his time spent as part of the 2021 HFPA Residency Fellows and Variety have reported that New Europe Film Sales have now taken the rights to Alvaro’s feature debut, Matria.
Jonathan Entwistle is set to direct the pilot of Disney+’s new series remake of 1988 film Willow.
Naomi Waring’s latest short film Ode, about disco dancing in Northern Ireland’s working-class community, is now available to view online via Girls in Film.
Kefi Chadwick has co-written a new film, The Devil, featuring on Bankside Films development slate.
Ka Ki Wong who was named as one of the Berlinale Talents for 2021 will also take part in the Berlinale Script Station.
Zhannat Alshanova’s short film Paola Makes A Wish, created at the Locarno Film Festival workshop with Bela Tarr, is a Vimeo Staff Pick.
Mariam Al Serkal was interviewed by Broadcast Pro Middle East about her work for Majid TV — the fourth most watched children’s channel in the UAE and sixth in Saudi Arabia.
Gonzalo Maza’s first film This is Cristina is now available on Amazon Prime in the UK, US, and other territories.
Patrick William Ireland and Jessica Romagnoli’s feature script The Ruin of Eden has advanced to the finals of the Screencraft Film Fund.
