Graduation film successes

Berlinale award-winning Filipiñana continues its incredible festival run with upcoming screenings at Prague International Short FF, Sheffield Shorts FF, Ecofalante Short FF, Fresh Wave International Short FF, Short Shorts International Film Festival, and Vienna International Short Film Festival. Congratulations to the team: Dir/Editor Rafael Manuel, Producer Naomi Pacifique, DoP Xenia Guenther, and Production Design Andrea Vigoni.

Grad film La Petite Folie screened at Anaheim FF (California) and picked up the Best Film Noir award. Congrats to graduates: Dir Massimo Zanini, Producer/Editor Kevin Barnett, DoP Antoine Billon, and Production Design: Chelsea Gallagher.

After a wonderful Festival run, grad film End of Season (2018) has been selected to screen at the Barbican Cinema on 3 June 2021. Congrats to the team: Dir Zhannat Alshanova, DoP Cem Demirer, Producer Paisley Walsh, AD Cait Lyn Adamson, and Editor Julien Testa.

Alumni achievements

The New York Times profiled Oliver Hermanus and discussed his BAFTA-nominated feature Moffie, a “scathing drama about toxic masculinity.”

Sitting In Limbo, a BBC drama co-produced by short course alumna Fiona Lamptey, is nominated for a TV BAFTA in the Single Drama category.

Rising Phoenix, the Paralympics documentary co-directed by alumnus Ian Bonhôte, has been nominated for four Sports Emmys: Outstanding Long Sports Documentary, Outstanding Camera Work — Long Form, Outstanding Editing — Long Form, and Outstanding Music Direction.

Three projects with LFS alumni at the helm have been selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s development scheme, Talent Lab Connects.

Jiajun Oscar Zhang and Hee Young Pyun took home the Special Jury Award at the Visions du Réel International Film Festival for their short film If You See Her, Say Hello.

Sonia Liza Kenterman’s debut feature Tailor screened in competition at the Bergamo Film Meeting as one of seven Italian premieres and won the Best Director Award and the 2nd Audience Award.

Emma Catalfamo has directed her debut feature film On The Fringe of Wild, which had its World Premiere at the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

Natashja Rathore was named as one of the 2021 Business Mint Nationwide Awards Under 30 Inspiring Entrepreneurs for her work as Founder & CEO of SBOX by Sakshi, in the NGO & Social Entrepreneurship Category.

MAS alumna Mariana Gonzalez took part in the Cine Qua Non Storylines Lab 2021.
